Prevent and Deter

In Knowsley our Children and Youth First Service is the main corporate response to individual young people who have been identified as being involved in antisocial behaviour and or at risk of involvement in crime and antisocial behaviour. The service engaged with over 250 children and young people during 2003/04 and that will increase substantially this year as the scope of the service expands and develops in line with best practice.

We have developed a tiered approach that embraces a range of strategies so that interventions reflect the seriousness of the behaviour and the level of co-operation and engagement.

Community and Youth Service

Detached youth workers operate throughout the Borough. The teams of youth workers make contact with young people on the streets and involve them in a range of activities. They also provide information for young people about other services in their local area in order to ensure young people have the opportunity to be involved in local activities

The detached teams are also involved in encouraging young people to become involved in Youth Forums to ensure that those who do not attend centre based activities have the opportunity for their views to be heard.
