ACQUISITIVE CRIME

Beat The Thief This Summer

SHUT OUT THE BURGLER

Contrary to popular belief the majority of house burglaries don’t occur at night and 20% of burglaries require no effort to break into houses. Recent analysis of burglaries in North Huyton have shown that 20% of break-ins happened because the front or rear door wasn’t locked and that the majority of burglaries occur in the afternoon between 2pm and 5pm.

Don’t help burglars – most are opportunist thieves. Always lock your doors and windows even if just nipping out to do the school run or to the shops for a paper.

GET YOUR BIKE ‘LOCKED’ THIS SUMMER!

Did you know that 99% of pedal cycles stolen are taken whilst left unattended and unlocked? In order to combat this, Knowsley Partnership will be offering free cycle locks throughout the summer.

In order to receive your free cycle lock you will need to take your cycle and proof of identity to your local warden. See ad on this page for your Warden’s contact number.

Ensure you always padlock your cycle to a post or railings. If that’s not possible lock your wheel to the frame so it cannot be cycled away.

ARE YOU ASKING A THIEF TO BREAK INTO YOUR CAR?

Although we have seen dramatic reductions in thefts from motor vehicles, the vast majority of cars are broken into by smashing the window. This is why:

The thief can see something on display they want to steal – thieves don’t smash glass on the off-chance something may be in the glove box.

If you don’t want to be a victim, remove all valuables – even loose change or lock it in the boot.
